Blood Orange, or Dev Hynes, has shared a stunning new music video for the cut “Chewing Gum” from his recently released full length LP Negro Swan. The clip, like the song itself, features the beloved rapper A$AP Rocky, with Rocky and Hynes off-roading around a desert landscape in ATVs while wearing flowing silk durags.
The truly graceful slow motion shots of the tender yet somewhat emotional video is a perfect accompaniment to this classic, honey-thick R&B cut. Hynes reportedly directed this low-key visual himself, proving himself a talented visual artist alongside his already proven musical abilities.
Hynes had previously already shared self-directed music videos of songs from the album, including cuts like “Charcoal Baby,” “Jewelry,” and “Saint.” Negro Swan is an excellent follow-up to the already impressive 2016 release Freetown Sound.
“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color,” Hynes said in a statement.
“A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”
Negro Swan arrived digitally on August 24; the physical LP is out today. Watch the new music video below.
