Just a week after fans were treated to an extremely expansive boxset of Tom Petty‘s work under the name American Treasure, they got even more exciting news as Universal announces plans to release another best-of collection of the late rock legend that spans his entire career.
Perhaps most importantly to the most devout of Petty fans, the boxset, titled The Best of Everything and due November 16 via Universal, even features a pair of never-before-released recordings. One is an unearthed track called “For Real,” and the other is an alternate version of a song from the 1985 Petty classic Southern Accents, “The Best of Everything,” which the boxset is named after.
Fans who pay close attention may notice that the alternate version even features a never-before-heard second verse that may be worth diving into. The entire boxset will feature 38 tracks culled from Petty’s entire career from 1976 to 2016, including not only his solo work and his material with the Heartbreakers, but his albums with Mudcrutch.
The Best of Everything will also contain an essay on Petty penned by the director of “Almost Famous” and Rolling Stone writer Cameron Crowe. The compilation will available to preorder now ahead of its digital and CD release on November 16th; a black and clear vinyl release will follow on December 7th.
