Heavy metal group Mastodon and noise rock band Dinosaur Jr. recently cancelled their headlining tour due to the critical health of Mastodon’s manager, Nick John, who was battling pancreatic cancer; sadly, John passed away weeks later. Now Dinosaur Jr. has soldiered on in Mastodon’s steed, playing series of intimate shows in small venues with special guests at multiple stops. One such special guest appeared at Toronto’s Opera House on Sept. 16, with Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham coming out in the encore to cover “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges and “Chunks” by Boston hardcore band Last Rights.
Fucked Up are currently in the midst of their own tour of North America and Europe. After recently signing with Merge Records, they released the singles “Normal People” and “House of Keys” ahead of the October 5th release of their new album Dose Your Dreams. The new album serves as the follow up to their 2014 album Glass Boys and will include 18 tracks. It will serve as part of an epic story about a man named David, his vision quest, and an anarchist fighter named Joyce.
Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, Easy Action, Brannon and The Meatmen‘s Tesco Vee and Don Fleming have also joined Dinosaur Jr. for special performances at several show dates this month.
