Donald Glover Sues Former Label Over Childish Gambino Royalties

The ongoing legal dispute between Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino and his former record label has escalated, according to Pitchfork. Glover has now filed lawsuit against Glassnote records, alleging that the label owes him over $10,000 in unpaid streaming royalties. Unlike most record contracts, wherein the label owns the rights to the master recordings, Glover’s deal with Glassnote was a licensing one, meaning he is entitled to more compensation from the label than the typical artist.  The two sides were engaged in mediation earlier this year but it appears that Glover has decided to take the next step to force the label to pay him.

Glover released three albums on Glassnote: Camp, Because the Internet, and Awaken, My Love! Glover parted ways with Glassnote earlier this year, electing to sign a deal with RCA Records for his future releases.

Glover started off 2018 by throwing down an epic performance at the Grammy Awards and he has been on fire ever since. He has steadily been releasing new music throughout the year, though most notably he has released some stunning music videos that have been the talk of the music industry. His gripping video for the song “This Is America” went viral over the summer with its fiery political commentary and innovative camera work.

Glover is currently on a tour of the US, and he claims that this tour will be his last under the Childish Gambino name.
