Country music icon Loretta Lynn proves she’s still woman enough with her newly released single “Ruby’s Stool”. The song is off Lynn’s forthcoming album, Wouldn’t It Be Great. The song tells the story of a honky-tonk heart-breaker named Ruby. Inspired by a real-life couple Lynn came to know while playing in Texas bars, she co-wrote the song with her longtime writing partner Shawn Camp. Listen to the song below.
“It’s one of the greatest things that me and Shawn wrote,” says Lynn.
Lynn’s daughter, Patsy Lynn Russell, agrees and says “It’s my favorite song on the record. When I hear that song, I have to smile, because I’m like, she’s still got it. She still has it when she writes those songs.”
The album is scheduled for release on September 28, via Legacy Recordings, with every song on it written or co-written by Lynn. The album premieres new compositions and reinterpretations of classics from her extensive catalog, including the hit “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin (with lovin’ on your mind)” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Wouldn’t It Be Great was previously delayed after Lynn suffered a stroke in 2017 and a broken hip earlier this year. At 86 years old Lynn has released over 40 albums and received numerous awards including Grammy Awards for her collaborations with Conway Twitty and Jack White. Lynn’s last album, Full Circle, came out in 2016.
