Sinsaenum – Repulsion for Humanity

Sheer brutality from start to finish

Sinsaenum has never been a band known for being subtle, and Repulsion For Humanity does nothing but reaffirm that fact. Beginning with the title track, the album is best described as sheer brutality from start to finish, a gold standard of blackened death metal.

The album features many elements of a solid blackened death metal release: heavy guitars, agonizingly powerful vocals and a double bass heartbeat to keep the pulse high throughout. Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Vimic) does an amazing job throughout on the drums with his frenzied yet precise playing style coming out in ways that he was limited from doing in previous endeavors. Songs like “Rise of the Light Bearer” and “Sacred Martyr” put Jordison at the forefront of the mix, and he does not disappoint.

The guitars throughout the album drive the rhythm to even further heights. The solo work and harmonies between the two guitarists are completely in sync and add an incredible sense of body throughout the entire album. Songs like “Insects” really exemplify an over the top approach to guitar, even for a death metal album while songs like “Forsaken” showcase the same level of musicianship without the speed and fury heard throughout most of the release. To say that the guitar work is flawless would be a gross understatement.

As a whole, the album is strong all the way through. Between the drums, guitars and vocals, Repulsion For Humanity sets the bar incredibly high for a sophomore release. The level of cohesion between every piece of the band is evident in all aspects of the production, the sense of impending doom and suffering that comes with the genre is only magnified by the level of musicianship and masterful production work. If the trend continues in this fashion, Sinsaenum’s inevitable third release will be nothing short of a masterpiece.
