Indie rocker and New Pornographer Neko Case has released a bizarre and adult-oriented video snippet for her track “Curse of the I-5 Corridor,” a duet with Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees, off her latest album Hell-On. This snippet plays a little over a minute of the over seven-minute long track, and features both Case and Lanegan in bed as a couple.
The clip opens with a duet from both of the indie singers, with both of them draped in bodysuits and bathrobes, the latter of which are soon discarded. Each beige bodysuit then begins to host an assortment of various corporal figures including copious amounts of body hair, breasts and a phallus on both Lanegan and Case’s body suits.
As Lanegan’s phallus becomes erect, another phallus begins to come out of Case’s vulva, to Lanegan’s bewilderment. Lanegan’s phallus is then shown holding a corn dog, before dipping it into a mustard dip which is held by Case’s phallus. After this both singers have their faces slightly away from the camera and are implied to be kissing one another.
Emmy-nominated director and HBO’s Room 104 executive director Xan Aranda directed the clip. Aranda had previously directed Case’s trailer for The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You.
“Curse of the I-5 Corridor,” is a reference to the west-coast highway, which stretches across the US’ northern and southern border, passing through important cities such as Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. This folk-inspired track mixes blues electric guitars, piano keys and simplistic drumming, with melancholic lyrics regarding as relationship.
Case released Hell-On, on June 1st, marking her first release since 2013’s The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You. Since its release the album has garnered critical acclaim and peaked at number 31 on the Billboard 200.
The songwriter is currently on break from live performances, after a more than 25 stop tour from May to July in support of Hell-On. Her next leg of the our is set to resume in the fall, beginning on September 5th in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and ending in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on September 27.
Back in May Case joined the likes of Father John Misty, making an appearance on Chris Thile’s public radio program Live From Here. During the performance Case performed tracks off her new album including “Gumball Blue,” which has become a staple during her live performances.
Lanegan has also had a busy year, releasing numerous singles in anticipation for his collaborative album with multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood, With Animals. Their latest song for the album, “Scarlett,” was released on July 24th with an accompanying music video. With Animals is set to be released on August 24th.
The day after the release of “Scarlett,” it was revealed that Lanegan will be taking part in a kickstarter project to do a song-by-song cover of the Pink Floyd classic, The Wall, with Magnetic Eye Records. Acts such as the Melvins and Pallbearers are also expected to take part in this release, which is set for September 28th.
