At an age when most people are slowing down, Yoko Ono is stepping things up, with a new record, Warzone, set to be released later this year. As reported by Newsweek, the 85-year-old musician has released the title track for the new album, with a music video featuring original artwork from Ono herself. Additionally, Ono will be releasing one new song from Warzone each week, up until the record’s release in October. Musically speaking, “Warzone” conjures up a grim reality of chaos and violence, blending rapid machine gun bursts with a minimalist piano line and a particularly poignant set of lyrics from Ono. The music video is a minimalist lyric video that includes plenty of striking imagery from Ono.
In recent years Yoko Ono has continued her prolific output, with the musician releasing a collaborative album a few years back in addition to a slew of awesome reissues of her classic material with the Plastic Ono Band.
To the casual music fan, Ono will always be remembered as the second wife of John Lennon, and the person who was blamed for the breakup of the Beatles. While that is not exactly fair to Ono considering she had nothing to do with the growing tensions between Lennon and Paul McCartney that eventually fractured the band, her odd tastes in music and art helped to create the notion that she had been the one to pull Lennon away from the band.
