R. Kelly has developed a knack for creating some extreme and over-the-top music. Who could possibly forget his hip-hopera Trapped in the Closet? Well R. Kelly is back with another long piece of music in the form of the 19-minute epic “I Admit,” as reported by Pitchfork. In the song R. Kelly covers a lot of thematic ground, addressing those who he felt wronged by and responding to the allegations that have been made against him in recent years.
Countless women have come out and said that Kelly runs a bizarre sex-cult and abuses women, and Kelly makes sure to deny all of these allegations in the song. In fact, he turns these allegations on their head, directly calling out the allegations with lines such as “Say I’m abusing these women/What the fuck, that’s some absurd shit/They brainwashed?/Really?/Kidnapped?/Really?/Can’t eat?/Really?/Real talk, that shit sound silly.”
One of the most personal attacks comes when Kelly calls out journalist Jim DeRogatis, who received an anonymous videotape in 2002 that allegedly showed Kelly having sex with an underage girl, a charge that he was acquitted on in 2008. DeRogatis is also responsible for the recent expose on Kelly and his sex-cult, interviewing women who said that Kelly controlled every aspect of their lives when they were living with him.
Additionally, Kelly also calls out Spotify, the music-streaming service that recently enacted a new content policy which involved removing Kelly’s music off the service due to repeated allegations of sexual misconduct.
