Earlier this month, it was brought to the attention that filmmaker Jon Schnepp, the main creator of the Adult Swim’s “Metalocalypse” had suffered a catastrophic stroke on Thursday, July 12th. This, according to fiancée, Holly Payne.
Schnepp was put on life support after suffering the stroke. Payne issued a statement on the matter through her Instagram feed. She urged fans to keep Jon in their hearts and prayers and went on to say, “While everyone is desperate for updates on his condition, we ask for your understanding on giving us the privacy we need over the next few days as we deal with the difficult decisions concerning Jon’s care.” Along with the statement, Payne gave fans a link to a GoFundMe campaign to help with his recovery. So far, the fund has raised more than $100,000. Payne also posted a lovely photo of her holding hands with her husband.
With heavy hearts, Schnepp’s life support has come to an end. Schnepp passed away on July 19th, 2018. He was 51.
Payne confirmed her husband’s death on Friday via Twitter. In her social media post off her personal account, she released a statement along with a screenshot of a fundraiser page which had been collecting donations for her husband’s recovery and medical expenses. In her statement, Payne expressed, “It is with a broken heart that the Schnepp family and I must announce the passing of our beloved Jon Schnepp, who died peacefully on July 19, 2018,” the statement reads. “Jon ultimately succumbed to the effects of a massive stroke.”
The hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. Our statement regarding @JonSchnepp from myself & the Schnepp family. Our hearts are heavy. Please respect our privacy. We are still raising money for his costly medical expenses. Thank you for your support. https://t.co/2qg7a9LcJG pic.twitter.com/hBfW7l7A5M

According to Payne, Jon had “a blood clot removed from his left carotid artery, but the bleeding could not be stopped. Irreparable and catastrophic damage was caused to both hemispheres, and all brain activity ceased. His sister Deborah and I had to make the difficult decision to take him off of life support. There was no possible way for him to recover. Please understand.”
Schnepp appeared to be a “Jack of all trades.” he was a producer, director, voice actor, editor, writer, cartoonist, animator, and cinematographer. His company, Schneppzone worked on short films and television series. Between the years 2006 and 2013, Schnepp directed 34 episodes of “Metalocalypse,” which appeared on the Cartoon network and followed the melodramatic adventures of a global hit death metal band known as “Dethklok.” The series featured the voices of Brendon Small, Tommy Blacha, and Mark Hamill (who you may know as Luke Skywalker and the voice of the Joker in the Batman animated series.) Schnepp also worked as an animator on several projects, including “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” and most recently 2016’s “Nerdland.”
Schnepp is survived by Payne, his sister, Deborah, his mother, Miriam, and his father, David.
