Summer Happenings @ The Broad with Kim Gordon and YoshimiO 9/29

Sonic Youth co-founder Kim Gordon and experimentalist YoshimiO are set to perform together at Summer Happenings: A Journey That Wasn’t (Part 2) at the Broad Museum on Sat. September 29th. This final Summer Happenings event will also include performances from Banjee Ball, Ranika, JZ Prodigy, Michael “5000” Watts, Arto Lindsay, Laraaji, Arji OneAnanda, Dedekind Cut, and Josiah Steinbrick. Tickets for the event are going to cost you $30, however, you’ll be discounted $5 if you happen to purchase an additional ticket in the concert series. The event is for those who are 21 years old or older, with performances beginning at 8:00 PM.

The two talented individuals, Gordon and YoshimiO, will be providing attendees with an unforgettable improvisational set. Both artists come from similar musical backgrounds. Gordon is an experienced rock veteran that has been creating experimental rock for more than 30 years. During these years, Gordon was a member in the influential rock band Sonic Youth in which she was the vocalist and played the guitar and bass. YoshimiO was also initially in the band the Boredoms where she played the drums, guitar, keyboard, and trumpet. While currently being a member of several other bands, YoshimiO is also a member of the Free Kitten band with Kim Gordon and Julie Cafritz. It’s almost as if YoshimiO and Gordon were meant to play together as they both have a similar improvisational style, which they will display for those attending the event.

It is without question that the wide range of brilliant artists will be providing memorable performances. Whether its Gordon and YoshimiO’s improvisational show, Banjee Ball’s captivating performance on ballroom culture, or Michael Watt’s chopped and screwed set, visitors are going to enjoy an indelible musical experience.

Julian Pino: I'm a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business. I graduated from California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo, California, but I now reside in Los Angeles. I'm very passionate about music and have been trying to involve myself with the culture surrounding it for as long as I can remember. I was recently fortunate enough to work with the thriving new multi-channel network, Create Music Group where I learned many new things about the music industry. Here, I acquired several skills regarding music monetization and even became certified in YouTube Content Ownership. When I'm not working on the clock I usually spend my time finding new music. As a DJ/producer, I take pride in discovering new artists and different types of genres. I recently started a project where I intend to support and share new artists on social media so that they're getting the recognition that they deserve. I also make an effort to attend local shows whether the performers are superstar artists or aspiring artists. Ultimately, I aim to positively impact the community of artists and listeners that are as impassioned about music as I am.
