The Broad’s Summer Happenings Featuring Matmos and faUSt @ The Broad 7/28

Electronic music duo and experimentalists Matmos will be performing at the concert series occurring at the Broad museum. The concert series titled “Summer Happenings at the Broad” is set to have various musical performances and art pieces for attendees. You can catch Matmos along with faUSt, EYE, Pharmakon, Total Freedom, FlucT, and Nelson Patton with Lonnie Holley on Sat. July 28th. Tickets will be priced at $30, however, you’ll get a $5 discount if you decide to purchase tickets for the other “happenings”. Admission to the museum will also be included for the night with the purchase of the ticket. This is strictly a 21+ event, with the performances beginning at 8:00 PM.

The duo Matmos, consisting of M.C. Martin Schmidt and Drew Daniel, will be performing at the Broad plaza. Known for their electronic and experimental sounds, Matmos has also been particularly recognized for their unique samples. More recently, the duo has created an album out of washing machine sounds titled Ultimate Care II. And yes, that is indeed the same name of the Whirlpool washing machine in which they composed their album with. This is merely one example of the group’s peculiar and innovative take on music production. Matmos seems to a perfect fit along with the other experimental and expressive artists performing at the Broad.

Total Freedom, in particular, has been known for his dark and industrial sounds that always happen to dominate the atmosphere. These sinister sounds are not only mesmerizing, but very danceable as well. FaUSt, on the other hand, has been originally known for their invention of “Kraut Rock”. In addition, their curiosity to work with different genres of music have proven to be influential. Joy Division, My Blood Valentine, and Sonic Youth are just a few bands that faUSt has had an impact on. In conclusion, the event is unquestionably going to be an unique and eye opening experience. The night will be full of enthralling sounds that will have concert goers craving more.

Julian Pino: I'm a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business. I graduated from California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo, California, but I now reside in Los Angeles. I'm very passionate about music and have been trying to involve myself with the culture surrounding it for as long as I can remember. I was recently fortunate enough to work with the thriving new multi-channel network, Create Music Group where I learned many new things about the music industry. Here, I acquired several skills regarding music monetization and even became certified in YouTube Content Ownership. When I'm not working on the clock I usually spend my time finding new music. As a DJ/producer, I take pride in discovering new artists and different types of genres. I recently started a project where I intend to support and share new artists on social media so that they're getting the recognition that they deserve. I also make an effort to attend local shows whether the performers are superstar artists or aspiring artists. Ultimately, I aim to positively impact the community of artists and listeners that are as impassioned about music as I am.
