Just two days after his 76th birthday, the legendary ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has announced his first new album in five years. The record, titled Egypt Station, follows up 2013’s phenomenal NEW and will be dropping September 7th via Capitol Records.
To satiate the anticipation of fans, the announcement is accompanied by a duo of singles, the soft ballad of “I Don’t Know” and the boisterous romp of “Come On to Me.”
“I liked the words ‘Egypt Station,'” said McCartney about the forthcoming album’s enigmatic title, in a press release. “It reminded me of the ‘album’ albums we used to make.., Egypt Station starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different station. So it gave us some idea to base all the songs around that. I think of it as a dream location that the music emanates from.”
Unsurprisingly (given his legend status), McCartney’s new record will be able to be preordered in a myriad of formats, including a Limited Edition heavyweight Concertina vinyl package, Limited Edition Concertina CD package, digital album, and Super Deluxe Limited Edition hand numbered box set package featuring as-of-yet unannounced bonus tracks.
During the five years since NEW, McCartney has worked with a number of artists, including the Foo Fighters, Beatles-mate Ringo Starr, and most notably Kanye West with tracks like “Only One,” “FourFiveSeconds” and “All Day.”
