After announcing some shows in Europe, The Black Queen have finally officially made their return with the announcement of a new album, Infinite Games. In addition to the new album, which will be released on September 28, 2018, the band has announced the creation of a new record label called Federal Prisoner. Their sophomore record, which follows up the excellent debut Fever Daydream, will be the first release for the label.
The Black Queen’s membership consists of Greg Puciato (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) and Steven Alexander Ryan (Nine Inch Nails/A Perfect Circle technician). The trio gathering to release of new material was not that surprising, considering Dillinger Escape Plan has recently announced they are calling it quits. Joining the trio of musicians in the formation of Federal Prisoner is artist Jesse Draxler, who did the artwork for both Fever Daydream and Infinite Games.
“Federal Prisoner won’t function like a typical label,” Puciato said in a press release. “It’s an expression of passion and individualism in a way that opens more doors for us to create and to own what we create with minimal compromise. It’s as much an act of refusal as it is a statement of intent. We won’t be working within the current industry blueprint of premieres, ‘instant grat tracks’ or any of that nonsense. We’re concentrating on the music, videography and packaging, an aural and visual experience. It’s exciting to create our own path.”
The record is influenced by several huge life events for the members. These include the breakup of DEP, the band’s scary bus crash in Poland and Eustis returning to Telefon Tel Aviv. As if the announcement of a new album and record label wasn’t enough, The Black Queen are also playing three shows in the United States in September. They’ll hit the three biggest cities, starting with New York on the 15th, Chicago on the 23rd and Los Angeles on the 28th.
