American singer Joshua Michael Tillman better known as Father John Misty released the music video for his song “Mr. Tillman” on April 25th.
According to mxdwn Father John Misty’s newest album God’s Favorite Customer is scheduled to be released on June 1st, 2018. The ten track record includes a blend of soul, alt country and indie sounds. Father John Misty’s fourth album was produced by him and was recorded with Jonathan Rado, Dave Cerminara, and Trevor Spencer.
The music video begins with Tillman standing in a hotel and inspecting a model of the town. The video progresses to him getting into a cab and being driven around the town, going full circle by ending where he started, at the entrance of the hotel. The driver of the cab disappears then he comes face to face with himself after his second self lands on the roof of the taxi before he hops in and drives away. The video includes a sign-in book of his name repeatedly in the book as well as the taxi moving but not going anywhere showing repetition. The video ends with the a scene that was shown in the beginning, Tillman inspecting the model of the town inside the hotel lobby.
The song and the music video connect by the use of mellow sounds and lyrics. The music video and song are cyclical in nature, creating a circular type progression. The song and video have a repetition of words, sounds and images creating the cyclical pattern.
