Janelle Monae Releases Introspective New Song “I Like That”

American singer-songwriter Janelle Monae released the new music video for her song “I Like That”. The song is fourth on her new album Dirty Computer. The third solo album is influenced by the genres R&B, trap and synth-pop. The song is being referred to as a new anthem for “the weird kids”. The new album is set to come out around late April. While fans are waiting for the new album to be released Monae is giving bits by releasing songs and videos.

According to Paste Magazine ” she tells a story about trying to stick out and not blend in with the crowd. The lyrics will connect with anyone who has ever felt like the freak amongst the “normal” kids.” Monae’s new song is about facing adversity. The singer makes references TLC’s CrazySexyCool by adding the lines “A little crazy, little sexy, little cool / Little rough around the edges, but I keep it smooth / I’m always left of center and that’s right where I belong / I’m the random minor note you hear in major songs” to her song.

According to mxdwn Monae is set to perform as a headliner at the Afropunk Festival. The two day festival takes place  August 25th and 26th at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park.
