Jenny Hval Releases Relaxing New Song “Spells”

Norwegian artist Jenny Hval has released a new song titled “Spells,” off of her newly announced EP “The Long Sleep,” set to be released  May 25th. The EP will be released under Sacred Bones and is the first release from Hval since her 2016 LP Blood Bitch. “The Long Sleep” was recorded with long-time collaborator Håvard Volden and producer Lasse Marhaug. In a press release, the EP is being described as an instinctive, even subconscious, approach to creating meaning andforegrounds the act of composition itself, letting the melodies and structures reveal the other elements of the song. Check out the tracklist for the EP below:

“The Long Sleep” EP Tracklist:
1. Spells
2. The Dreamer Is Everyone In Her Dream
3. The Long Sleep
4. I Want To Tell You Something

“Spells” is a captivating song and dreamy, with Hval’s voice being weightless. As she sings the lyrics You are your own disco ball hovering above you, like a comforting reminder that not even you belong to you.” it puts you in a relaxed state of mind. Listen to the track  below:

Hval recently played the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN along with Julia Wolfe, Jenny Scheinman, Evan Parker, and Arto Lindsay and was featured on Lindstrom’s “Bungl (Like a Ghost)” Hval will also be going on tour in support of the new EP. Check out the itinerary below:
