Garage-punk group Le Butcherettes have announced that they have signed with Rise Rrecords, releasing a new song from their upcoming album in the form of “spider/WAVES.” The band also released an accompanying music video for the song. Directed by Noun, the video is a dizzying blend of quick edits and blurry camera work, providing the perfect counterpoint to the song. The video also features lead singer Teri Gender-Bender dressed in a traditional Mexican Chichimeccan warrior outfit.
Musically speaking, “spider/WAVES” sounds crisp and clean due to a great production job from the legendary Talking Heads keyboardist Jerry Harrison. The track rides plenty of disjointed and angular guitar riffs along with Gender Bender’s frenetic vocal delivery. The queasy and atonal guitar lines give the song an interesting sound as the shifting chords do not imply any specific key.
Le Butcherettes rose to prominence when they landed an opening spot of the iconic rock band The Mars Volta, drawing the praise the TMV’s Omar Rodríguez-López who played bass in the group and produced a couple of their albums. Gender Bender also spent time with ORL in the supergroup Crystal Fairy, which also featured King Buzzo of the Melvins.
Le Butcherettes last released an album in the form of 2015’s excellent A Raw Youth.
