Do You Feel It Still? If So Catch Portugal. The Man at the Fox Theatre on April 12th!

With an album called Woodstock, Portugal. The Man’s progression towards their upcoming Coachella performance has been a long time coming. While some may argue Woodstock and Coachella do not carry slightly the same cultural weight or significance, perhaps this is the perfect alignment for the band at this time. Like Woodstock, Coachella’s lineup stands out among any other music festival with their immense variety of genres and styles. However, Coachella’s embodiment of hippie culture is merely pastiche borrowing from the past and modernizing what was once counterculture into the mainstream.

This is what many have said of Portugal. The Man’s latest album. Not only does the band lean into tech beats mixed with rock, they have also recently collaborated on a remix with Weird Al. While these are things the majority of the population may love, even the band itself knew they were taking a risk with this move towards the mainstream. Months before the release of Woodstock, Portugal. The Man released a t-shirt for sale that read, “I Liked Portugal. The Man Before They Sold Out.” This clear attempt to maintain their core audience while moving toward a new sound is clever, yet will it bring the core fans to Coachella? And if not will they make it to the Fox Theatre on April 12th? Core fan or not decide for yourself if you “Feel It Still” by seeing Portugal. The Man live, or go for Cherry Glazerr a rock band through and through.
