Joan Baez Announces Fall 2018 Final Formal Tour Dates

After a sixty year career that produced thirty albums, countless tours, and an imprint on American protest culture, Joan Baez announced that on September 11th, she will embark on her final tour. The tour includes at least fifty dates set for the UK and Europe, and includes stops at New York’s Beacon Theatre and Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Baez will use the tour to promote her new album, Whistle Down The Wind, of which she says she is “truly proud.” Every ticket purchased will include a digital download of the new album; tickets will be available on March 2nd.

Rolling Stone calls the new album “a moving reflection and summation of Baez’s life as a singer, musician and activist.” Surely, Baez’s career is a mainstay of America’s midcentury folk revival. She first gained notoriety during the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, after which she recorded her debut album, Joan Baez. Baez played and toured with Bob Dylan, and is often credited with jumpstarting the now-Nobel Laureate’s illustrious career, without reaping much benefit. Baez was an activist, Dylan was not; the two eventually split because of their diverging paths.

Regardless, Baez’s influence on American music and culture is unforgettable and rich; her new album is a musical exploration of her life.

Conrad Brittenham: My name is Conrad. I am one year out of college and pursuing a career in writing and journalism. I studied literature at Bard College, in the Hudson Valley. My thesis focuses on the literal and figurative uses of disease in Herman Melville’s most famous works, including Moby-Dick, Benito Cereno, and Billy Budd. My literary research on the topic of disease carried over to more historical findings about how humans tend to deal with and think about the problem of virus and infectivity. I’ve worked at a newspaper and an ad agency, as well as for the past year at an after school program, called The Brooklyn Robot Foundry. All of these positions have influenced the way I approach my work, my writing, and the way I interact with others in a professional setting. I’ve lived in London and New York, and have always had a unique perspective on international cultural matters. I am an avid drawer and a guitarist, but I would like to eventually work for a major news publication as an investigative journalist.
