After tweeting about a “realistic” upcoming release, art-pop singer Grimes revealed the decision to withhold a new album allegedly due to the current “trash” condition of the music industry. Moreover, as mxdwn reported, the album was partly inspired by the game Dark Souls 3, in which the user is an unarmed demon who rises from his grave and fights against other demons.
Rumors followed such events and triggered the suspect that the artist was experiencing troubles with her management, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. While the original Instagram post, in which she accused the music industry of being “trash,” was shortly deleted, Grimes clarified on twitter that Jay-Z had always been very supportive of her and her art and that there was no problem with Roc Nation.
However, just recently Steregum reported how she is working on a final album for her “shit label” (4AD) and that she might choose to go fully independent or to release a new record for another label. She also revealed that the album will have a “high collaborative” feature and that an hypothetical fully-indie accomplishment would be characterized by a dark and chaotic record. She later apologized for “spreading bad vibes” and criticizing her label in a following post in which, according to the Fader, she announced that she was making a million beats.
