Fever Ray’s new video for “IDK About You” is full of images that scream ‘dystopian future,’ but actually culminate into a progressive worldview that is pro-immigration and adamantly advocates women’s rights. The scene opens in an apartment dominated by these sort of demon-feminists wearing costumes that a superhero could wear to fight crime during the day and to DJ an EDM party later that night. Dim, colored lights and sheets of aluminum illuminate the apartment with futuristic glow, graffiti of upside-down peace signs and phrases like “the revolution is my girlfriend” and “one vagina to rule them all” scatters across the walls.
However, the radical nature of Fever Ray’s video might distract viewers from its big reveal—the band members. The video reveals the group’s touring members: Karin Dreijer, Liliana Zavala, Mikaela Hansson, Maryam Nikandish, Diva Cruz and Helena Gutarra. These six women now all have bios on Fever Ray’s Instagram page.
“IDK About You” is the seventh installment of their latest album, Plunge. Fever Ray released the album in October of 2017 to immediate critical acclaim. Though it came at the end of the year, it was included as many best-of-year album lists as you could ever want. The group also recently announced a European tour, of which the dates are listed below.
