Today, Dan The Automator, Kool Keith and DJ Qbert of Dr. Octagon shared their first original song in over twenty years. “Octagon Octagon” premiered on The Fader yesterday and is just what fans expected. Kool Keith’s zany and often endearingly shameless attitude never fails to disappoint. The group made an effort with their new single to keep with the original sound that was so popular in 1996.
The single is however but a fraction of Dr. Octagon’s news. A new album, Moosebumps: an exploration into modern day horripilation, will be available on April 6th. Moosebumps is the much anticipated sequel to the group’s first album, Dr. Octagonecologyst.
The character Dr. Octagon is a time traveling gynecologist and surgeon from Jupiter. In Keith’s second album, First Come, First Served, Dr. Octagon is killed by Dr. Dooom. After being revived only to lead a short second life, Dr. Octagon again dies in Dr. Dooom 2. It is unclear whether or not these characters will resurface in the new album. Whatever it ends up being about, it’s exciting that this group is back on the scene.
