Portland, OR’s own Stumpfest has announced the lineup for its seventh edition, which will take place April 19-21 at 3939 Mississippi Avenue, north of Downtown. With all of the heavy psych acts littering the lineup, it’s probably not a coincidence this festival is being held on the weekend of 4/20 — topping the lineup are Dead Meadow, Windhand and Whores, with support from other unique bands like SUMAC, Helms Alee, Emma Ruth Rundle, Dommengang and more.
Dead Meadow is celebrating the announcement of their newest LP, which is scheduled for release in March of 2018. The record will be called The Nothing They Need and includes a new song called “Keep Your Head.” Meanwhile, SUMAC, which features metal icon Aaron Turner of ISIS, Ipecac Records and more, is about to release a new EP with Keiji Haino called American Dollar Bill – Keep Facing Sideways, You’re Too Hideous To Look At Face On. It’ll be released in February of 2017.
Meanwhile, it’s been about a year since the last release from Helms Alee. The experimental metal band released Stillicide in 2016, which was one of our favorite albums of 2016. Noise rock band Whores released their first LP in 2016, titled Gold. The other headliner for the festival is Windhand, a band that saw critical and commercial (for a metal band) success following the release of their third LP Grief’s Infernal Flower. Other bands playing at the festival in March include Future Usses, Holy Grove, Pushy, C-Average, Marriage + Cancer, Black Mare, Rajas and Das Mortal.
