Known for her work with The Bird and The Bee as well as an accomplished solo artist, Inara George is gearing up for the release of her new album Dearest Everybody on January 19. Today we are excited to share the premiere of the latest single from that album, the wistful ballad “Slow Dance.” It is a true celebration of self, presented in the kind of beautiful musical package for which George has become such a beloved artist.
“When I turned 42 I had a “Slow Dance” party,” said George about the new single. “It was a great party… lots of dancing and carousing. The night reminded me of a certain part of myself from my youth. A part that isn’t really as available to me, nor is something that I long to be anymore. But still, the next day left me with a real sense of nostalgia. Growing older can be painful. I had some metaphorical growing pains. But one of the gifts of getting older is that I know that the end of something always leads to another beginning.”
This sentiment is expressed directly in the lyrics of the song, which are accompanied by loping acoustic guitars that give way to a spiraling electric guitar lead. Throughout the track, George’s breathtaking vocals take center stage as she dreamily sings about youth being wasted on the young and the new beginnings offered through aging.
George will be hitting the road in 2018 as well. She will play a run of shows on the East and West Coasts. Check out the dates below:
