The Damned revealed recorded an album in October 2017 that would be available early this year via Search & Destroy records. Though it will be the group’s eleventh studio album, it will be their first one produced by Tony Visconti. Visconti is somewhat of a household name in the music industry, having worked with David Bowie, T. Rex, Iggy Pop and others. The Damned’s new album will be the next in his resume.
The Damned released a statement expressing their enthusiasm for Visconti. “He’s been at the top of our producer list since we first started thinking about recording the album, [and it’s a] dream come true he’s on board!”
The group also expressed that they want to “do the unexpected,” and that Visconti will help them remain unpredictable. Their last album came out in 2008, now ten years ago. They are not looking to retrace their steps. Bringing on Kevin Kline as their engineer makes this a reality for them. Kline, like Visconti, also worked with Bowie and a number of famous artists including Peter Gabriel and Elvis Costello.
The album news came with a few other announcements as well. Stu West, The Damned’s bassist, left the group and Paul gray (who worked with The Damned in the 1980s) will take his place. The next album, with a new producer, engineer and bassist will surely be something new after a long ten years.
