As mentioned by AV Club, Sweet Apple, the American rock band formed in 2010 use Mark Boone Junior of Sons of Anarchy in their new video for “Everybody’s Leaving.” With outstanding members John Petkovic and Tim Parnin of Cobra Verde, J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and Dave Sweetapple of Witch, Sweet Apple uses their talents to create a psychedelic, immediately classic-sounding stew. The supergroup’s most recent album Sing the Night in Sorrow, out earlier this year, was a stunning success. Petkovic made friends with actor Mark Boone Junior while working on a film together, and that friendship came with a third wheel: Boone’s pet chicken, Baby Dee.
The video starts out with Boone and Baby Dee in a stray area killing time. Boone steals a car (from Lord Of The Rings actor Harry Sinclair) and picks up a hitchhiker on his way to Vegas. He drives the slick sports car around a scenic route before returning for Baby Dee for a seemingly happy ending to the song. The song sparks an emotional pull of familiarity, stirring up a connection to the chorus where Petkovic croons on repeat “everybody’s leaving” along with a ringing guitar and repeating chords. The bass line gives a tinge of sorrow or liberation, whatever way you want to look at it. Watch the road-trip movie in miniature “Everybody’s Leaving” below.
