The former Republican Congressman and current MSNBC morning host Joe Scarborough has come out with a holiday EP. It is about two things: Christmas and Trump. The title, A Very Drumpf Christmas appears to single-handedly mock the President, using Trump’s family’s original last name that they Americanized, changed and ultimately is ashamed of. The album artwork itself points at obvious ridicule. Some sample lyrics from the second track off the EP read “Oh you can save our Christmas from going kerplumf / From that orange creep that children call the Drumpf?”
“The band had a great time making a holiday EP where we could experiment with musical influences as varied as The Beach Boys, Phil Spector and the Grinch. We also wanted to release songs that connected to what was happening in 2017 instead of 1947,” Scarborough said. “Some media outlets like FOX News suggested I was only trying to make a big political statement, but when you listen to the songs, you can tell we were just having fun in the studio.” Combining the holiday season with a seemingly politically charged EP is cause for debate as to whether it was just fun or mockery. Either way, it is sure way to make waves around the country.
Back in June, Scarborough launched his debut EP, which he says was influenced by Weezer and M83. He also performed on Colbert. And now, his holiday EP, which was released November 17th.
