Green Day Goes After Trump in New Video for “Back In the U.S.A.”

Green Day has released a music video for “Back In the U.S.A”, which shows a political view against president Trump. This follows the band performing at different festivals such as Mad Cool Festival and Pinkpop Festival.

According to SPIN, the video is an alternative to Leave-It-To-Beaver, where the 1950s is merging with the events of today. There is a lot of symbolism in the video such as materialism and greed, with the messages shown in the OBEY font. The video was directed by Brendan Walter and Greg Yagolnitzer.

The video starts out with the America flag and a narrative with a black and white filter. The narrative starts the story saying that Bill is living the American Dream but that will change. As the narration says that as Bill picks up a newspaper that says talks about “presidential address tomorrow”. The only color that shows throughout the video is on the TV when a type of glasses are worn. Later the glasses shown later changes pictures to say phrase like “President to lie to nation tomorrow night!” and “Conform Conform….” As the speech starts shortly, the glasses are put on the camera lens, to show the truth during the speech. The TV later shows Donald Trump as a zombie and the reveal of Green Day performing as Trump is pushed off the stage. As Green Day continues to perform, the world shows more color. The video is shown below.
