This past Friday (November 10th), progressive metal band, Mastodon, kicked off their European tour in Berlin Germany. Aside from being the first show of the tour, the show was unlike any other. The band brought out Scott Kelly to perform with them. Kelly, lead vocalist of the innovative metal band Neurosis, has been featured on several Mastodon songs over the past few years. According to The PRP, Kelly has performed some of the songs with the group in the past, but never on a consistent basis.
Bill Heliher (guitar), Bränn Dailor (drums), Troy Sanders (bass, vocals) and Brent Hinds (guitar, vocals) came together with Kelly at Huxley’s Neue Welt venue to perform all six of their shared songs. The band performed older collaborations like “Crystal Skull,”Spectrelight,” Aqua Dementia,” and “Crack the Syke,” and premiered their two newest songs “Scorpion Breath,” and “Diamond In The Witch House.”
The band first formed in 1999 in Atlanta due to a shared respect and love for innovative metal bands like Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Neurosis. The group has now come full circle from mere fans to collaborators. The group will continue to tour their latest album, Emperor of Sand, and latest EP, Cold Dark Places, up until December 10th.
