The 1971 kid’s classic “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory’s” soundtrack was performed this weekend by Weird Al, John Stamos and many others, as mentioned by Stereogum. An all-star cast of musicians and celebrities along with DeVotchka performed the film’s music live at the Hollywood Bowl. John Stamos starred as Willy Wonka, Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard played Charlie, “Weird Al” Yankovic was the Oompa Loompas, and the rest of the performers consisted of Elle King, Giancarlo Esposito, Ingrid Michaelson, and Richard Kind.
“Like our concert celebration of ‘Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl,’ we are mixing in film, live music, singers, dancers, effects and special guest artists to create an event that pays homage to the original movie but also delivers something that could only be experienced live,” said concert director Richard Kraft. “Our creative mantra for this show has been, ‘Anything you want to: Do it.’” The Oscar-nominated score by Anthony Newley, Leslie Bricusse, and Walter Scharf were performed live onstage, including songs “The Candy Man,” “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket,” and “Oompa-Loompa Doompadee-Doo.” See fragments from the nostalgic show below.
