Ride Releases Pulsing Rhythmic New Song “Pulsar”

Shoegaze legends Ride have released a new song, the shimmering and dreamy rock of “Pulsar.” The track continues the group’s collaboration with producer Erol Alkan. Alkan was the man behind the boards for Ride’s seminal comeback album, Weather Diaries, which was released earlier this year. You can check out mxdwn’s full review here.

Musically speaking, “Pulsar” is built on a bed of ethereal synth lines, with a driving drum line and a fuzzed out bassline grounding the song in a danceable groove. As usual Mark Gardener’s smooth vocal delivery adds to the song’s dreamlike sound while Andy Bell adds plenty of echo drenched lead guitar lines to flesh out the sound, turning it into yet another classic Ride track.

Ride first rose to fame during the first wave of shoegaze bands in the U.K. during the late 80’s and early 90’s, with the group developing into one of the genre’s most distinctive sounding bands. Internal tensions caused the band to break up in 1996, but they reunited in 2015 for world tour to coincide with the re-release of their iconic 1990 album Nowhere. The reactivated band announced earlier this year that a new album and another world tour would be happening, dropping several new songs and music videos during the buildup to Weather Diaries. Ride recently released stunning new music video for the song “Cali,” and they are just finishing up a string of highly successful tour dates.
