Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Give a Glimpse into the Studio in New Video for “Call On God”

After the death of Sharon Jones last year, her record label, Daptone Records, has decided to release her last album titled Soul Of a Woman, which is set to come out on November 17th. To get fans excited for the last album, the record label has released a new video for one of the songs off the album titled, “Call On God”. Sharon Jones orginally wrote the song way back in the late 1970’s for the E.L Fields’ Gospel Wonders, a choir she was a big part of at the Universal Church of God in New York City. The original recording with the Dap-Kings dates to the early 2007 sessions for the album 100 Days,100 Nights.

During her memorial service, the choir she was apart of performed a moving tribute along with the Dap-Kings. Shortly after everyone went to the Daptone House of Soul studios in Bushwick to finish “Call on God”. They say Sharon Jones always wanted to add background vocals to the song and she would have been happy to know that her friends sang with her one last time.
