It hasn’t been looking very good for Matt Mondanile for quite awhile. Last year he separated from his former band Real Estate in order to focus on his own band Ducktails, until Real Estate reported to Pitchfork that Mondanile was fired because of his continuous inappropriate behavior with women stating “he was fired in February 2016 when allegations of unacceptable treatment of women were brought to our attention.” Multiple have accused the New Jersey guitarist for sexual misconduct including singer Julia Holter.
According to Pitchfork, the Los Angeles musician went on Facebook to discuss how her emotional abusive experiences with Mondanile matched up to the claims of other women, stating “Their allegations are in line with each other and they are in line with what I came to know about Matt in the past, which is that he does not have boundaries. In my experience, he was emotionally abusive to the point where I had to have a lawyer intervene and was afraid for my life.”
Since these arrival of accusations, Ducktails has had to cancel shows in the U.S. and countries like Japan, Philippines and Thailand according to Spin. In a recent statement Mondanile address these claims apologizing to “everyone and anyone” affected by his actions and that he “accepts responsibility for his less than exemplary behavior.” The statement also claims “Much of what has been written and talked about is false and defamatory” and that “there are two sides to these stories.”
