Get ready for an oldie, but a goodie. The Jesus Lizard is coming to the Fonda Theatre this winter, specifically Dec. 14. Hurry and cop a ticket before the event sells out. This is only one of a handful of tour dates this December, marking their first public performance since 2009. After 8 long years, they will start the tour off in Nashville, Tennessee, and will end at Houston’s Day for Night festival, according to Pitchfork.
The Chicago noise rock band reunited in 2008 to play shows after splitting up 10 years prior, according to Pitchfork. They performed for several years and ultimately succumbed to another indefinite hiatus.
In 2013, frontman David Yow released his debut solo record Tonight You Look Like a Spider, according to Pitchfork. Other than that, no one else from the band has put out any recent tunes. The Jesus Lizard’s last album was Blue, which came out almost two decades ago.
Formed in 1987, the band originally started as a project based out of Austin, Texas. AllMusic said “during the first part of the decade, the band turned out series of independent records filled with scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial noise, all of which received positive reviews in underground music publications and heavy college-radio play.” In 1989, the band signed with Touch and Go Records.
The band went on to release four albums through that label: Head (1990), Goat (1991), Liar (1992) and Down (1994), all receiving favorable or mixed reviews. After those four releases and the release of two EP’s, Pure (1989) and Lash (1993), the band signed to Capitol Records.
Through Capitol they released one more EP, titled The Jesus Lizard and one more album, which was their last. Although the band never found mainstream commercial success, they’ve continued to have a loyal fanbase and underground following.
