According to Brooklyn Vegan, controversy in the NFL about player protests during the national anthem have now trickled over into music world. Common, who has always been vocal about social issues had some things to say about Jerry Jones. Owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, recently stated that any player that “disrespects” the flag won’t play.
“To me it’s an owner mentality. It’s like a slave owner mentality, to be honest. Like, ‘You gonna do what I say on this.’ Nobody disrespecting the job, they’re just saying this is how I want to place my body during this anthem. Other people choosing to put their hands over their heart. What makes that gesture better than somebody else who might be praying during the national anthem? Or if somebody says, ‘I’m kneeling for what I believe in,’ … then they should be able to do that because that’s what this country is about.”
Common wasn’t the only one with an opinion about the things said by Jerry Jones. Michael Wilbon, network personality and co-host of “Pardon the Interruption,” also compared Jones to a slaver owner. Click here to see his statement from the show.
