Tributes and grief continue to pour out over the death of Tom Petty, who recently passed away on Monday. Now, pop sensation Kesha paid tribute to the rock icon at a show in Boston last night.
The pop singer performed a cover of Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open.” Kesha talked a little before the performance, and what Petty’s song meant to her. “Not trying to be a downer,” she says, “but I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and I wanna pay my respects.”
With hair blowing in the wind and only a guitar to back her up, Kesha dives into the classic Petty track to deliver a soft, melodic, and beautiful rendition. Check out the cover below, along with an original version of the song.
Kesha has been on a tear this year. After suffering from abuse and sexual harassment from producer Dr. Luke, and the difficult court case that followed (including a deposition from Lady Gaga), Kesha has released some of her best and most impactful music with the release of her stellar album Rainbow, along with a collaboration with Macklemore from his new album.
