Goldenvoice Presents: Jonwayne @ The Roxy Theatre 11/26

He’s back. Jonwayne is going on tour with EMV and Danny Watts to support his latest project, Rap Album Two. First stop is Las Vegas, Nevada and the last stop is Los Angeles. Angelenos will get a chance to see this awesome performance Nov. 26 at the Roxy Theatre. It maybe be a Sunday night show, but that doesn’t mean that the club won’t go up. Jonwayne is known for both his quick wit and his versatile beats. The man knows how to produce and he knows how to rap.

Last week, Jonwayne wrote on Facebook that he is bringing “two of the best rap albums in 2017” to concertgoers and tickets are selling fast.

“Next week, I will be taking Rap Album Two on the road in the US,” he wrote on Facebook. “Opening up for me is Danny Watts, whose album I produced and arranged. Two of 2017’s best rap albums will be performed live, every night.”

Jonwayne, burst into the LA beat scene around 2008 via the Airliner’s club night Low End Theory. Surrounded by the likes of Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing and the Gaslamp Killer, he got his start with homemade mixtapes. His first breakout hit was the instrumental album Bowser (2011), which still absolutely slaps till this day. Utilizing the sounds of video games and turning them into masterful works of music, he quickly became known as a top-notch producer in the scene.

At some point, Jonwayne made a jump from producing to rap. A lot of it was thanks to Stones Throw MC Peanut Butter Wolf, who happened to catch his talent and decided to sign him. While working on his debut rap album, Jonewayne released three tapes, titled Cassette 1, Cassette 2 and Cassette 3. During this time he also released the EPs titled The Death of Andrew and Jonwayne Fucks Disney(2012), along with the album Ooodles of Doodles.

Rap Album One came out in 2013 via Stones Throw Records to favorable reviews. In 2014 he released a compilation of cassettes and in 2015 he released another album and an EP, titled Here You Go and Jonwayne is Retired. Following a hiatus due to issues with alcoholism, Rap Album Two came out in February 2017 through Authors Recording Company and producer Daddy Kev’s The Order Label. Pitchfork gave the album 7.1/10, saying that “it’s an introspective journal that uses self-critique as a lens through which to examine the fragility of rap celebrity on any scale. It considers what it means to be a rapper and it considers the cost. Rap Album Two deconstructs Jonwayne to build him back up.”
