From touring to releasing their album Spirit & video to it’s third single “Cover Me,” all while preparing to rock the house at Hollywood Bowl next month, it’s safe to say that Depeche Mode has been pretty busy throughout 2017. Yet while the English electronic band continues to make noise while staying productive, Andy Fletcher, Martin Gore and Dave Gahan took time out of their busy schedule to pay homage to pop icon Dave Bowie by dropping a video of a performance cover one of his many hits “Heroes.” Ironically by honoring the hit’s 40th anniversary with their performance it was also a reminder of how Bowie influence the group in their younger days.
Recorded from the ‘Highline Sessions,’ the directed Tim Saccenti’s video shows Depeche Mode doing a good rendition of David Bowie’s classic hit “Heroes,” as they perform in a dark setting with lights changing colors and a projector projecting the images of a field playing in the background. While Gahan does a good job making his voice smooth and impactful, Fletcher and Martin show true musicianship by creating instrumentals that match the lighting and mood of Bowie’s timeless song. Gahan told NME the importance of Bowie & his song was to him stating “Heroes” is the most special song to me at the moment. Bowie is the one artist who I’ve stuck with since I was in my early teens. His albums are always my go-to on tour and covering ‘Heroes’ is paying homage to Bowie.” Below you can checkout Depeche Mode’s video of their cover of David Bowie’s classic track “Heroes.”
