An epic night in hip-hop is coming to the Novo in downtown Los Angeles, thanks to the folks at Goldenvoice. Rapper and food connoisseur Action Bronson will be headlining the event Oct. 15. While Bronson, a native of Flushing, Queens, might not look like your typical rapper, he’s got every quality of one. Bronson, also known as Ariyan Arslani, has easily become one of hip-hop’s most charming and eccentric game players, thanks to his hilarious sense of humor that landed him a VICE show, a plethora of magnificent releases since 2010 and an vibrant ear for really, really good East Coast hip-hop sounds.
Interview Magazine described the rapper as “Bronson is to Flushing, Queens, what Falstaff is to London: a wild, hedonistic hero and comically boastful mascot.” The New York Times hailed Bronson in a 2011 review as “one of the most promising prospects in New York hip-hop.” Growing up hanging around his father’s Mediterranean restaurant, Bronson developed a food palate with an expensive taste. While all of this was happening, he was getting into trouble.
A short stint with the law changed Bronson’s life around, which is when he kind of started to get his life together. He started rapping, had a couple kids and enrolled in culinary school, according to Interview Mag. A string of mix tapes came out in succession shortly after, starting with Bon Appetit…..Bitch. Next, he put out a self-released EP titled The Program with Don Producci. Subsequently his first LP, Dr. Lecter, came out in 2011 on Fine Fabric Delegates to favorable reviews. Following shortly after came the LP Well-Done via Switchblade and DCide Records. The next year, Bronson put out the mix tapes Blue Chips featuring Party Supplies and Rare Chandeliers, which features the Alchemist. In 2013 he released Blue Chips 2 and Saaab Stories, and then for 2 years Bronson doesn’t release anything. During this time Bronson started up his VICE show, aptly called “F%^$, That’s Delicious.”
In 2015 Bronson finally released the LP Mr. Wonderful, which broke onto the Billboard Charts, peaking at number 7 on the US charts and number 2 on the US Rap charts. The album, released through Atlantic and Vice Records received very favorable reviews. Bronson’s latest album, titled Blue Chips 7000, was recently released through Atlantic and Vice Records, peaking at number 53 on the US charts.
