Chelsea Wolfe is coming to the Regent Sept. 30 in Downtown Los Angeles and she’s bringing the band Youth Code with her. Always an enigmatic singer, Wolfe is sure to mystify and woo concertgoers. Youth Code will also raise the bar for the night, hyping up the crowd for the main act. In support of her latest album, Wolfe is embarking on an almost 2 month long tour across the states and Canada. Beginning in Santa Ana and ending in San Francisco, Angelenos will only get one night to rock out. Youth Code will be the featured opener for all the dates with Screature jumping on the NorCal dates towards the end.
Wolfe, a California native, began her underground career in 2010, earning praise for albums The Grime And The Glow (2010) and Apokalypsis (2011), which blended certain genres in a way that has never been seen before. Angry, gothic, a little folky, and a little death metal can only begin to describe what Chelsea Wolfe is as an artist and a performer. In 2013 Wolfe signed to Sargent House and released the captivating album Pain Is Beauty to critical acclaim.
Two years later, Abyss (2015) came out to critical acclaim, showing an album packed with songs that synthesized electronica, noise and metal to perfection. Pitchfork noted that metallic elements are “built into, and integral to, the music, which frequently booms with distorted doom-metal guitar.” The album broke on the Billboard charts, topping the Heatseeker Albums and rising to number 6 on the Folk Albums. The album was also number 32 on the Independent Albums, as well as peaking at number 10 on the Tastemakers charts.
On top of her album releases she has also put out a split EP with King Dude, as well as getting a song featured in Game Of Thrones season four. She’s also had songs appear in Fear The Walking Dead and other television series, and she’s also released a film during her tenure. Most recently she went on tour with Converge. A quick tidbit to know is that a Converge member helped produce her latest album Hiss Spun. Hiss Spun is set to be released Sept. 22 through Sargent House.
American EBM duo Youth Code first got together in 2012, hailing from Los Angeles, California. Their unique mix of industrial and hardcore punk sets them apart. Not even meant to be a band, members Sara Taylor and Ryan George got together because of Taylor’s work, Vacation Vinyl. They released their first EP in 2012, titled Demonstrational Cassette. The following year they signed with Dais Records and released their self-titled debut LP and another EP, Keep Falling Apart (2013). In 2014 they released 2 more EPs, A Place To Stand and Consuming Guilt. The following year, Anagnorisis (2015) was released. In 2016 they released their second album, Commitment to Complications.
