KCRW Presents Slowdive @ The Wiltern 10/29

Los Angeles, come out for a night to remember. 89.9 KCRW is bringing Slowdive to the Wiltern Saturday Oct. 29 and it’ll be one for the books. The all ages event is just shy of $40 dollars a ticket, but considering the band took a 20 year hiatus, the price is extremely worth it. Slowdive has a sound that will transport you to a different era. The band certainly has lived up to all of the hype that got them back together.

British band Slowdive formed in 1989, broke up in 1994 and reformed in 2014. The quintet has been described as pioneers of shoegaze and dream pop, helping expand ambient, experimental and indie rock for future generations. The band released their first EP in 1990, titled Slowdive, to favorable reviews. At this time, Slowdive had just signed to Creation Records. They subsequently released 2 more EPs, Morningrise and Holding Our Breath (1991), which broke onto the UK charts. Although their 1991 debut album Just For A Day didn’t garner as much reception in the UK, it did independently and it did in the United States.

Slowdive has gained a massive cult following, especially while they were broken up. In 1993 the group released their second album Souvlaki, which peaked at number 52 on the UK Albums chart. Then they released the Outside Your Room EP. Next, they followed up with another EP, 5 (1993), but after the release the band’s drummer left due to creative differences. Slowdive’s third studio album, Pygmalion, was released in February 1995. After a lot of disagreement with how that album was made, as well as Creation dropping the band from their label, Slowdive broke up.

After pursing separate projects for awhile, the band reformed in 2014. After extensive touring for 3 years, the band released their first album in over two decades, Slowdive (2017). The album was well-received by critics, earning an 82 out of 100 on Metacritic. The revival of shoegaze and dream pop has effectively propelled an otherwise underrated band into sudden stardom.
