There seems to be trouble going in between legendary hip hop figures Flavor Flav & Chuck D both co-founders of the highly respected hip hop group Public Enemy. According to Pitchfork, Flavor Flav is suing Chuck D over unpaid royalties. Flav claims that it has been years since he has received royalty check for their music, live shows or merchandise. He also states that his voice and image were used without his consent on Public Enemy’s latest album Nothing is Quick in the Desert which was released for free download on July 5th. Flav states that he only received $7,500 for the record even though he requested $75,000. Chuck D however isn’t the only person who seems to have upset Flav. He also plans on going after one of the group’s production team Bomb Squad’s Gary Wiz for allegdy using his image to create Public Enemy action figures and not receiving compensation for it.
Chuck D repsonded to the lawsuit on saying that even though he thinks Flav should have handled the situation better, it’s nothing that is going to destroy his relationship with his longtime friend/collaborator. He released statement on TMZ‘s website stating ““Flav has his rights, but took a wrong road on this.” He continued addressing the issue on his Twitter account a couple days ago tweeting:
