The last the world heard from AJJ they had released their sixth studio album The Bible 2 last summer supplying their die hard fans with weird emotionally filled complex lyrics mixed with a psychedelic folk punk sound. Well it seems that Sean Bonnette, Preston Bryant, Ben Gallaty & Mark Glick are providing listeners with more musical product this year as well by recently sharing their brand new EP Back in the Jazz Coffin.
Like all of the projects from AJJ, Back in the Jazz Coffin is difficult to understand if you aren’t a fan or familiar with their work, however it’s also contains five tracks that are so short that it makes it easier for their listeners to grasp what they’re trying to say. According to Lauren Records, Back in the Jazz Coffin is filled with experiences of AJJ’s lead singer Sean Bonnette life, sharing moments that he’s ashamed of that are so dark that the only thing he believes he can do with them is place them in a coffin and bury them. The beginning of the EP starts with “American Body Rentals” that sounds like a infomercial where Bonnette is selling bodies to hold emotions that people are trying to get rid of. The next track “Blood, Hatred, Money and Rage 2” Bonnette reflects how these four ingredients created conflict in an old relationship of his, while the third song “Border Patrol (Yuma)” he recalls getting into it with Border Patrol. On “My Crooked Leg” Bonnette reflects over funky guitars of how he was looking for assistance to help guide him to his destination in hopes of avoiding injury while crossing the road. The final track “Fuckboi” Bonnette looks back on his past relationship & starts to believe that maybe he does deserve to be classified as a “Fuck Boy” due to his actions.
