Type O Negative was an American goth band that was adored throughout the ’90s for creating emotion filled albums that contained lengthy songs that were based on heartbreak, revenge on an unfaithful lover, & even suicidal thoughts. Sadly the music journey of the four Brooklyn natives Kenny Hickey, Josh Silver, John Kelly and Peter Steele would come to an end on April 14th, 2010 when their lead vocalist Steele passed from heart failure. Later on that year the remaining members of Type O Negative decided to discontinue the band after losing their dear friend. It’s been seven years & the metal world hasn’t heard much from the guitarist/singer Hickey, but it seems that a rebirth of the beloved 90’s metal music has begun with the recent creation of his new band Silvertomb.
Yesterday it was reported by Loudwire that together both Hickey & Kelly created a new band called Silvertomb, that has a roster of recognizable talent. The line up includes both Type O Negative members Hickey & drummer Kelly, former Agnostic Front guitarist Joseph James, former bass player Hank Hell & Empyreon’s keyboard player/guitarist/backup vocalist Aaron Joos. By combing different elements of rock such as gothic metal, hardcore punk, stoner metal, crossover thrash & doom metal, Silvertomb has been able to compose a sound that Hickey described as “heavy, dark and spiritual — like a dark gospel.” A couple weeks ago the new band released a teaser clip of a new track that is a sample of the music that Silvertomb has been making on their Facebook page.
