Experimental Japanese metal group, Boris, released new live footage for their song, “The Power” this morning. The song maintains the power and scale associated with Boris with a refined clarity. In their own words, it’s “a song that takes the glacial doom of their early records and broadens the expanses of empty space to allow the chirp of amplifier tubes, the groan of strained speaker cabinets, and the sizzle of cranked distortion to transform their dirges into macrocosms of textures.”
“The Power” can be found on Boris’ 23rd studio album, Dear, which was released three weeks ago. The album was originally intended as a farewell project, yet the band produced three albums worth of content in the process. Apparently, the rest saved for “future releases.” As mxdwn writer Cervante Pope put it, “Dear is this, taking the best of over three albums of songwriting material and cramming it into one… Fortunately it was not the farewell album that the band had initially conceived. Even if it were, it would’ve been a good, grimly beautiful one.”
In support of its release, Boris will traverse the United States on an extensive headline tour this Fall, alongside Japanese noise metal band, Endon. Dear can be found via digital download on bandcamp.
