New York indiepop outfit, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, released a new music video Friday. “When I Dance With You” is the second single from recently announced album, The Echo of Pleasure. The old school video recalls images of a time before YouTube with a colorful DIY vibe.

The Echo of Pleasure is The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s fourth album, the follow up to 2014’s  critically acclaimed Days of Abandon. According to press release, this is the album where the band truly comes into their own, while retaining their big-hearted, idealistic pop sound. It will explore themes of fragility and safety, and is “structured with warmth.”

Lead singer and principal songwriter Kip Berman recruited the help of producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, The Killers) to create the album he truly envisioned. Berman recorded the album while his wife was six months pregnant, and cited uncertainty as a driving force in it’s sound, “What’s going to happen when I have a kid? Am I going to be able to go on tour? Is this the last record I’m going to get to make? It’s not a bad thing to be worried when you’re expecting this huge transition of life. If you didn’t feel scared, you’re probably not feeling the right emotion. I tried to make the best record I could, knowing it might be the last time.”

The album is slated for an official September 1st release, but you can check out the advance review from mxdwn here. According to mxdwn writer Alex Muñoz, “Maturity is great look on new wave, and that’s really the proposal from The Echo of Pleasure that sticks.” The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will be embarking on a USA/Spain tour on September 9th in Brooklyn. You can pre-order the gold vinyl or buy concert tickets here.
