Albert Hammond Sr., father to the Stroke’s guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has stated in a recent interview that the band are currently recording their new album with famed producer Rick Rubin, according to The West Australian. Music fans are no doubt excited at the prospect of the two working together, as Rubin is arguably the most diverse and well-respected producer on the planet, working with critically acclaimed artists such as Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem and Adele.
The Strokes have not released a full-length album since 2013’s Comedown Machine though they did release a three song EP last year. There was news late last year that the band were working on new material but no new details have come out about it until Hammond Sr.’s interview. Hammond Sr. is quoted as saying that “They’re making a new album now with a great producer called Rick Rubin. I speak to my son every day and he says that they’re so happy. I’m sure this will be a very successful record”. Since breaking out in 2001 one with their iconic debut album, Is This It, The Strokes have maintained a high level of popularity and the pairing of the band with someone of Rubin’s stature is undoubtedly going to build anticipation for the new record to staggering heights.

It appears that The Strokes will not be recording with Rick Rubin after all according to Stereogum. Hammond Jr. posted on Twitter to shoot down the rumors that they were recording with Rubin, saying that they met him and played some music for him but there were no plans to enter the studio.
