Gregg Allman’s Final Studio Album Southern Blood for September Release Unveils Its First Single “My Only True Friend”

Music fans all over are still mourning over the passing of legendary singer/songwriter Gregg Allman. The late Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member/Allman Brother lead singer was known for fusing genres like rock, jazz & country together to create hits such as “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post” & “Melissa” died due to complications of liver cancer two months ago. However according to reports from Paste, Allman recorded an album to be released prior to his untimely death. The first posthumously & final album is called Southern Blow & will be a tribute his Macon, GA roots. Select purchases of Southern Blood, will also include copies of a painting of Allman by Vincent Castiglia, with Allman’s blood in the paint. The 10 track album will be released on September 8th & produced by Don Was who spoke on the album & his late friend stating:

As his producer, I was dedicated to helping Gregg crystallize his vision for the record and to help make sure that this vision made it to the tape. He was a musical hero of mine and, in later years, had become a good friend. The gravitas of this particular situation was not lost on me. Gregg was a sweet, humble man with a good heart and good intentions and it was a great honor to help him put his musical affairs in order and say a proper farewell.

The album’s first track “My Only True Friend,” was recently where we find the beloved singer creating a country tune that takes the role of a farewell letter to his listeners. Lines like “I hope you’re haunted by the music of my soul when I’m gone,” make the listeners feel as if Allman knew how his situation would end, but hopes that his listeners would be captured by his work in order to keep his memory alive.
