Margo Price Surprise Releases Four-Song EP Weakness

The Nashville singer Margo Price first brokeout with her 2016 LP Midwest Farmer’s Daughter and some extensive touring to support it, even appearing on SNL and other late night shows. While she had been slowly incorporating new material into her sets, she finally gave fans something they could take home when she dropped a surprise EP, Weakness.

Fans who caught her live will recognize a few of the tracks. “Paper Cowboy, and the title track both worked their way into the rotation during her live sets. “Just Like Love,” and the title track were penned (along with Price) by Jeremy Ivey, her husband and fellow bandmate. “Good Luck,” was written by Ivey in dedication to Nashville Ben Eyestone, who passed away earlier this month. Two concert favorites “All-American Made” and “Heart of America,” however did not make it onto the EP, with Price presumably holding them out for her upcoming LP. The new EP is firmly rooted in the country/Southern rock sound that made Price a star, and will be a nice treat for fans as she looks to expand her sound on her new LP, according to Rolling Stone.

“There are still some very country moments, but there will be a lot of other things on the record, because that’s what keeps me interested…Three chords and the truth is the cliché—I like to throw a couple extra chords in there.”

Weakness was recorded alongside producer Matt Ross-Spang in Memphis, a chage-in-location from her usual Sun Studios. Instead, she used the larger Sam Phillips Recording space that has been a Memphis staple since the late 50’s.

You can catch the new LP digitally today, and tomorrow physical editions will hit the shelves. The vinyl EP will be packaged as a pair of 45’s, (“Weakness” and “Paper Cowboy will be the A-sides). Price as also a part of this year’s High Water Festival, as well as opening for My Morning Jacket.
